Backpacking in Peru Overview

Backpacking, Machu Picchu, and exploring Peru

Ever dreamed of hiking to Machu Picchu alongside an incredible group of young single adults? This is your chance. For 8 unforgettable days, you’ll hike, serve, explore, and grow—together.

We’ll begin in Cusco, where you’ll acclimate to the altitude and get a feel for the rich culture of the Andes. From there, we’ll set out on the Lares Trek—a 4-day journey through the heart of the Peruvian mountains. You’ll hike around 25 miles, passing ancient ruins, turquoise lakes, and herds of llamas, all while surrounded by some of the most breathtaking scenery on earth.

But this trip is about more than just the adventure—it’s about purpose. Along the way, we’ll stop in remote villages to serve the local people. Whether it’s helping with community projects, playing with kids, or offering simple acts of love and kindness, you’ll walk away with a deeper appreciation for humility, connection, and the joy that comes from giving.

Each night, we’ll gather around the fire for scripture study, journaling, and heartfelt discussions—growing closer to each other and to Jesus Christ. And on the final day, you’ll arrive at the awe-inspiring Machu Picchu, a reward that feels even greater when you’ve earned it step by step.

This is not a vacation—it’s a transformational experience. You need to be in excellent physical condition and ready to hike at high altitudes. But if you’re looking to push yourself, serve others, grow in your faith, and build lifelong friendships—this adventure is for you.

Are you ready?

This was a fabulous trip through the beautiful landscape of the Mighty Five and wonderful additions in Arizona, Colorado and Utah. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and we entered all the Parks without any of the publicized traffic delays. The tour was comfortable and the group size (9) perfect Tom rallied our group early every day and he knew all the 'secret' back roads within the Parks to maximize our adventure. Antelope Canyon was magnificent, as was: Zion, Bryce, and Scenic Highway 12 in Utah. I highly recommend this tour company for your Utah National Park travel experience.

My wife and I chose the self guided option of the Mighty 5 plus Dead Horse and Goblin Valley State Parks with Southern Utah Scenic Tours. One word for the entire process and trip: SPECTACULAR! Will and Jaime gave us the most incredible 9 day itinerary that took us from Las Vegas to Salt Lake City. Every day was wonderfully outlined in the travel package and we felt like we had plenty of time to see every attraction. The lodging was outstanding and always close to the parks we were visiting. The restaurant recommendations were spot on every time! The local knowledge they provided in the travel package was invaluable for the entire trip and provided us with tips to sights, hikes and scenery that we would have never found on our own. We feel like we have truly experienced the beauty of southern Utah! Thanks for a wonderful trip!! Everything was perfect!

We just returned home from the Utah Mighty 5 National Parks tour. Our roomy and comfortable van held 10 people plus our guide. The tour was well planned out, our guide Kiley Bice was knowledgeable and fun, and the hotels were all great. Due to rain, one day’s plans had to be changed on the fly. Kiley had alternative activities and sights planned without disappointments or regrets. The only negative was the van had a water leak from the air unit on the roof that dripped into the van after a hard rain. Kiley informed the main office and they immediately remedied the issue by driving a replacement van to us the next day. We felt confident that the company valued our experience and supported their employees to the fullest. We would definitely tour with Utah Southern Tours again and recommend them to all our friends.
